Managing Director, Jim Bell has 20 years experience in Risk Management,
Loss Control, and Property Insurance.
Graduating with a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) 1974, Jim
commenced work as a Research engineer on a number of R&D projects. In early 1977 he
joined Kemper Insurance Company Ltd. as a trainee Fire Protection Engineer.
The following two years were spent in the United States completing a
comprehensive Highly Protected Risk (HPR) Loss Control Engineering and Fire Prevention
course. During this period extensive experience was gained through inspection of a wide
variety of industries, including; saw mills, plywood plants, pulp and paper mills, mines,
industrial facilities, and commercial risks.
On return to Australia, additional experience was gained over the next
4 years in the commercial, industrial, and mining sectors with responsibility for some of
Australia's largest, resource based companies. Examples are; a multi-location integrated
alumina and aluminium producer, and a large integrate copper/lead/zinc concentrate and
refined metal producer.
Transferring to Japan in 1983, Jim worked in an engineering role for
four years.
Returning in 1987, he was responsible for the engineering activity on a
number of large Australian accounts in both the industrial and resource sectors.
In 1988 direct insurance experience was gained when Jim transferred to
an underwriting role. This involved property and machinery insurance with emphasis on
machinery breakdown underwriting and completion of machinery breakdown loss control
surveys.
Early in 1993 Jim left Kemper Insurance Company Ltd and established Rowland Bell
Australia Pty Limited. To date more than 480 assignments have been completed in a broad
range of Risk Management related activities.
